Last November I had the pleasure of playing a gig with my friends from jeff greer & the STiR at the Celtic Bayou in Lynnwood, WA.  Well, it’s St. Patrick’s Day this Thursday, and we’ll be doing another round there.  Expect to hear some good ol’ Celtic songs sourced from Jeff’s old band on the east coast (jeff greer band), executed with some new flair, of course.

Practice last night went great and we’re all looking to have a great time this Thursday.  Things will kick off around 8:30pm and go till around midnight.

House shows are amazing.  Why?  Because you get to be very close to the band, in a very large living room area.  Not unlike a family holiday reunion where all your crazy relatives you don’t really know show up.

This show is gonna rock, mainly because of Victoria Vox.  She’ll be joining in on some of our songs (“our” meaning Jeff Greer and the STiR), and we’ll be joining in on some of hers.  It’ll be an awesome night for all!  Doors open at 6:30pm.

Over the past year or so, instead of partaking in the more traditional outlets of art, I’ve spent a lot of my free time on a more technological form—web design.  I recently launched my business, Red Moose Cloud.  Why such an odd name, you ask?  Let’s see if I can come up with some reasons:

• Red - seems like a good color to me
• Moose - a unique animal, often misunderstood, yet demanding respect (plus my daughter loves them)
• Cloud - a hot trending keyword in the tech world these days, plus they are just cool and almost never in the same sentence as “Moose” (the name had to be SEO friendly, right?)

A few weekends ago, my friend Jeff was able to play a show at the Park Pub and asked me to play with him.  Jeff works there as a bartender, so it was great to play to his “home crowd”.  We were joined by our friends Gary and Jesse to fill in some bass and additional acoustic and hammered dulcimer.

What a great time!  We played for over 3 hours and even though I was dog tired at the end, it was a blast.  I played my mixed percussion set, using a snare, kick, djembe, tambourine, and splash.  One guy told me later that he came in during a cover of “Time Is Running Out” by Muse and thought it was a full drum set by the sound of it.  Looking forward to more shows like this one!  I’ll try to keep you posted here as they come up.

Sidenote… I hate naming songs.  They always end up sounding either boring and predictable, or outright ridiculous and pompous.

Maybe I’ll get a chance to polish it a little more and record a demo of it soon.  It’s been really hard to record anything in the place I’m living now.  Due to space issues, all of my gear cannot be setup and ready to record at any moment.  Which makes the amount of energy required in recording anything exponentially larger.  Also, there is a family living up stairs, plus my daughter is either sleeping or making too much noise to get any decent recordings done.

We’ll see what happens… perhaps the stars will align someday!  Stay tuned, my faithful readers (anyone left?  Leave a comment?).

Any painters out there?  What do you think?  Any value oil products that you can recommend?  What additional things will I need?

Such life changing events like this have typically had drastic impacts on those who would claim to be artists, however loosely that term is used.  Some people write songs about their children.  Others paint or write poems.  I’m not sure what I’ll do, if anything (given how busy I’ll probably be in just getting to know her as a person), but I do know that she will inspire.

Nothing I know of that inspires so much could also fail to bring out great and lasting art.

“The only content I found is your lame biography,” they’d reply.

Apparently, what is seen as intriguing and intuitive design to a single web artist can go completely and unintentionally unnoticed by a good portion of his audience.  Please pardon my assumptions.

To the far left, you can see a strip of square images representing each form of media I intend to host on the site.  I had thought most people would find them easily, curiously rolling their cursor over them in search of some goodies.  I was wrong on some occasions.

For those of you who have not yet discovered any REAL content, I apologize.  The fault is all mine in poor design.  In the near future, there will be even more content coming as well.  For now, enjoy some music and writings.
